Generic Environmental Claim
A broad environmental statement that does not specify what it refers to, such as "eco-friendly", "green", "nature's friend", "climate friendly" or "environmentally responsible".
Under the EmpCo Directive, generic environmental claims made to consumers in the EU are banned from 27 September 2026 unless the trader can demonstrate recognised excellent environmental performance relevant to the claim.
EcoAppraise context
Generic claims are among the highest-risk statements EcoAppraise screens for. Replacing them with a specific, measured and qualified claim is usually the most effective fix.
