Carbon Offset
Compensating for greenhouse gas emissions by buying carbon credits that represent emission reductions or removals elsewhere.
EcoAppraise context
Offsetting does not reduce a company's own emissions. Offset-based product claims of being neutral, reduced or positive in climate impact are banned for EU consumers from 27 September 2026. Other offset claims must clearly disclose the role and quality of the credits.
