ASA Ruling on Qatar Airways: 'Bulk Offset' and 'Travel Consciously' Carbon Offset Ads Banned

The ASA upheld complaints about two paid LinkedIn posts by Qatar Airways that invited businesses and travellers to offset their flights' carbon emissions. The ASA found the unqualified wording implied a specific flight's emissions could be fully offset, which Qatar Airways' offsetting scheme did not demonstrate. The ads must not reappear in that form.

Why it matters

Confirms that offsetting claims aimed at business audiences on LinkedIn are still judged as consumer-facing, and that implying a flight's emissions can be fully cancelled out needs robust substantiation.
