Future Environmental Claim
A claim about environmental performance a company intends to achieve, such as "net zero by 2040" or "100% recycled packaging by 2030".
Under the EmpCo Directive, future environmental claims made to EU consumers must be supported by clear, objective, publicly available and verifiable commitments, set out in a detailed and realistic implementation plan with measurable, time-bound targets, and regularly verified by an independent expert.

Targets presented without a plan, milestones or independent verification are high risk. Claims should make clear that the target has not yet been achieved.
