FTC Green Guides
Guidance from the US Federal Trade Commission on how to avoid deceptive environmental marketing. The Green Guides were last revised in 2012; the FTC opened a review in 2022. They are not binding regulations, but they explain how the FTC applies Section 5 of the FTC Act, which prohibits deceptive practices, and some US states reference them in their own laws.
EcoAppraise context
For US claims, EcoAppraise uses the Green Guides as the baseline for terms such as recyclable, compostable, degradable and carbon offset.
