ASA Ruling on Thomas Cook: Unexplained 'Eco Resort' Claim in Search Ad Breaches Code

The ASA ruled that a Thomas Cook paid search ad describing a hotel as an 'Eco Resort' breached the CAP Code because it did not explain what the claim was based on. Although the resort had environmental features, the ad neither described them nor clearly pointed consumers to that information.

Why it matters

Shows that 'eco' has no fixed meaning: even when it appears in a property's name or in automated ads, the basis of the claim must be made clear to consumers.
