SEC Climate Disclosure Rule

A US federal rule adopted by the SEC in March 2024 requiring listed companies to disclose certain climate-related risks and, for some, greenhouse gas emissions. It was stayed pending court challenges; in 2025 the SEC voted to stop defending it, and on 29 May 2026 the SEC proposed rescinding it entirely.

EcoAppraise context

Do not describe the SEC climate rule as in force. US climate disclosure obligations currently come mainly from state laws, such as California's, and from general securities law, under which misleading climate statements to investors can still be enforced.
