Renewable Energy Certificate (REC)
A certificate proving that one megawatt-hour of electricity was generated from a renewable source. In Europe these are called Guarantees of Origin; in the UK, Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs).
EcoAppraise context
Unbundled certificates bought separately from electricity are weaker evidence of real-world impact than direct power purchase agreements. Claims should disclose how renewable electricity is sourced.
