Market-Based vs. Location-Based Emissions
Two methods for calculating Scope 2 emissions from purchased electricity. The location-based method uses average grid emission factors; the market-based method reflects the specific electricity a company has contracted, including renewable energy certificates.

"100% renewable" or zero-Scope-2 claims usually rely on market-based accounting. Claims should say so, and ideally show location-based figures too.
