Loi Climat et Résilience

A French law adopted in 2021. Among other measures, it restricts advertising claims that a product or service is carbon neutral: since 2023, such claims must be supported by a greenhouse gas emissions report, a reduction trajectory and details of how residual emissions are offset, made available to the public.

EcoAppraise context

France was one of the first countries to regulate carbon neutrality claims directly. From 27 September 2026, the EU-wide EmpCo rules also ban offset-based neutrality claims at product level.
