ESMA Fund Names Guidelines
Guidelines from the European Securities and Markets Authority on EU funds whose names use ESG or sustainability-related terms. Funds using such terms must invest at least 80% of their assets in line with the environmental or social characteristics or sustainable objectives they promote, and must apply set exclusions. They applied to new funds from 21 May 2025 and to existing funds from 21 November 2025.
EcoAppraise context
A fund name is itself a sustainability claim. Names that overstate a fund's strategy are a common source of enforcement risk.
