Environmental Labels (Type I, II, III)
The three types of environmental labels defined in ISO standards. Type I labels (ISO 14024) are third-party certified ecolabels based on multiple criteria. Type II labels (ISO 14021) are self-declared claims made by the company. Type III declarations (ISO 14025) provide quantified life cycle data, such as Environmental Product Declarations.
EcoAppraise context
Self-declared Type II claims carry the highest substantiation burden because no independent body has checked them.
