Clorox ordered to pay $8.25m in penalties for misleading 'ocean plastic' claims about certain GLAD products
The Federal Court ordered Clorox Australia Pty Ltd to pay $8.25 million for making false or misleading representations that certain GLAD kitchen and garbage bags were partly made of recycled ‘ocean plastic’. The products were actually made from plastic waste collected from communities in Indonesia near shorelines, not from the ocean. Clorox must also implement a compliance program and publish corrective notices.
